SAN ANTONIO - Two men have been arrested here after attempting to steal an ATM from a credit union branch here.
As CUToday.info has reported, attempts to physically steal the machines are more widespread than many realize, often resulting in thousands of dollars of damage to the machines and surrounding facilities.
According to San Antonio Police, the two mean attempted to steal the ATM from the branch of Security Service Federal Credit Union in the 1430 block of Southeast Military Drive. Police said they received a call from a security company that was monitoring the credit union about an attempted theft with a front-end loader.
Police said officers arrived the attempted theft was in progress and the two suspects, both believed to be in the mid 20s or early 30s, then tried to flee.
Authorities say the men had pulled the entire ATM completely out of the ground just before running off. After a search of the area, police were able to locate both men and take them into custody.
Police did not release the names of those arrested.
