AMSTERDAM, Netherlands—ING customers in the Netherlands can now use their voice to make mobile payments.
ING Netherlands’ mobile banking app now includes voice-activated payments, and customers log into the system and pay their bills via their phone without using PINs and passwords.
Users simply have to say a short phrase, and the app will match up the sound recording to a file stored on the phone, reported Sky News, which noted that the shape of vocal cavities and the way someone moves their mouth means that speech can be more unique than a fingerprint.
Biometrics firm Nuance is providing the speech-recognition technology for the bank’s app. The system is available on iOS and Android phones.
