Capital One Offering New Tool To Monitor Usage Of Social Security Number

Credit Wise

MCLEAN, Va.—Capital One's Credit Wise, a free credit tracking tool, will now alert consumers if someone uses their Social Security number to apply for a new line of credit or open another financial account.

Anyone can use the service, regardless of whether they have an account with Capital One or not, LifeHacker said.

It also tracks your credit reports from Experian and Transunion and will notify someone if there are changes, and will alert them if their email address or Social Security number are found on the Dark Web.

Credit Wise also offers steps to take to improve credit scores, and lets people know how they rank in various credit factors, like account history and credit utilization, LifeHacker said.
