CHICAGO — Lucky members or representatives from eight credit unions were chosen as winners of PSCU’s sixth annual Credit Union Magic Minute, during which teams have 60 seconds to grab as much as they could from a warehouse stacked with thousands of items ranging from electronics and toys to kitchenware and household products.
The program has been developed and sponsored by PSCU to help its owner credit unions build “even more tight-knit relationships with their members,” the company said.
Winners from credit unions across the country — including one team running on behalf of charity — won an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Chicago to participate.
“The Credit Union Magic Minute was created by PSCU as a way to help owner credit unions create stronger loyalty by delivering a unique and unforgettable member experience,” the CUSO said. “Owner credit unions that participate in PSCU’s rewards program are automatically enrolled in the sweepstakes.”
PSCU said cardholders in CURewards average six to seven more transactions per month and 30% more spend throughout the year.
The Role of Rewards
“Recently, PSCU reinforced the large role rewards play in determining payment choice for consumers in our Eye on Payments study, in which over 93% of survey respondents indicated they receive a reward or benefit when making purchases with their credit card,” said Tom Pierce, chief marketing officer for PSCU. “The Credit Union Magic Minute is a fun and exciting way to help our owners foster member loyalty and strengthen engagement. PSCU is proud to support this unique promotion that recognizes and celebrates the irreplaceable bond between credit unions and their members.”
This year’s winners came from APCI FCU in Allentown, Penn.; Aspire FCU in Clark, N.J.; Scient FCU in Groton, Conn., SRP Federal Credit Union in North Augusta, S.C.; The Summit FCU in Rochester, N.Y.; TruMark Financial Credit Union in Fort Washington, Penn., and Y-12 Federal Credit Union in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Each winner brought a guest of his or her choosing to take part in the festivities.
What Teams Grabbed
“Teams loaded up dozens of items, including MacBook Air computers, TVs, game systems, cookware, GoPro cameras and iPads into their winning carts,” PSCU said.
PSCU reported the participating credit union with the highest sweepstakes participation among members, along with demonstrating its marketing efforts to promote the campaign, was surprised with the opportunity to run for a non-profit of its choice. That credit union, Community First Credit Union in Appleton, Wis., selected Pillars, a collaboration between three organizations addressing the challenges of homelessness, housing and hunger, as the recipient of its sweepstakes items.
According to Community First, Pillars’ work is a true reflection of the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and showcases the power of cooperation.
Support for Families
“Community First has been a strong partner for us over the years, and Magic Minute is a fantastic way for us to be able provide additional support to our families,” said Pillars Executive Director Joe Mauthe. “We are honored to have such a giving partnership.”
To further strengthen the relationship between PSCU said the member and his or her credit union, representatives from each credit union also made the trip to Chicago.
“Many of this year’s winners spoke to the importance of their credit unions getting to know them on a personal level and providing the services, offerings and guidance they expect from their trusted banking partner,” said Annie Cox, VP-Loyalty Solutions at PSCU. “For them, Magic Minute is further evidence they are more than just a number at their credit union, and that their loyalty is truly appreciated and valued.”
