ARLINGTON, Va.—NAFCU has made a donation to the African-American Credit Union Coalition’s Pete Crear Scholarship Fund in honor of Maurice Smith.
Smith, CEO of both Local Government Federal Credit Union and Civic Credit Union, is the recipient this year's Pete Crear Lifetime Achievement Award from the AACUC.
The association also made a donation in Smith's honor to AACUC's Pete Crear scholarship fund.
The award is presented annually at AACUC's conference to recognize a credit union professional or volunteer whose career has embodied AACUC's mission to increase the strength of the global credit union community and supports the credit union philosophy of "people helping people."
Smith has dedicated 35 years to the credit union industry and has served on NAFCU's accounting standards committee. The coalition attributed Smith's continued commitment to his passion for politics and credit union affairs.
"For over three decades, Maurice has provided leadership for the industry, been a strong voice for the credit union mission, and has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of credit union members across the country," said NAFCU CEO Dan Berger said.
