WASHINGTON–Credit union representatives were out in force in the hallways of the U.S. Capitol Building yesterday for the numerous receptions and open houses held in conjunction with the convening of the 116thCongress.
While the first day of any new Congress makes for a traditional meet-and-greet, this Congress requires extra attention to build awareness of credit unions, as in addition to a change in control of the House from Republicans to Democrats, overall there are 10 new members of the Senate and 101 new members of the House.
The new House leadership also brings with it a new chair of the House Financial Services Committee: Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA). The House also has a new Speaker in Nany Pelosi (D-CA).
Representatives of CUNA, NAFCU, the state leagues and other groups were on hand in Washington to meet with legislators, as were representatives of countless other groups.
