DAYTON, Ohio–In an event being sponsored by a credit union, cooperative businesses in this area are holding a “CO-OP FEST.”
The event, scheduled for Oct. 19, will include food trucks, live music, vendors and presentations from cooperative sponsors, the chief sponsor being Wright-Patt Credit Union.
“Co-ops create good jobs and root needed businesses in our community,” Lela Klein, founder and director of Co-op Dayton, told the Dayton Daily News. “Gem City Market is just one of several initiatives that we’re working on at Co-op Dayton. There are many ways that co-ops can strengthen our local economy and meet our needs as workers and neighbors.”
Co-op Dayton is the incubator organization for the Gem City Market.
As part of the event there will be a “tap takeover” by Fifth Street Brewpub, a cooperatively owned brewery. The evening will conclude with a benefit concert, starting at 9 p.m. and featuring live music and poetry and spoken word performers.
Entry to the Food Truck Rally is free with a $5 suggested donation. Entry to the benefit concert is $10 in advance or $15 at the doors.
