Underwriting Manager

Our Indirect Underwriting team is in the market for a dynamic and innovative leader, someone that is passionate about member service and team motivation. The Underwriting Manager will oversee the daily operations of the underwriting department and ensure that procedures and practices are in alignment with credit union expectations. In this role, you will lead a team of Underwriters who review and decision Credit Union Direct Lending (CUDL) loans. Qualified candidates will have at least 3-5 years previous management experience and at minimum 3 years in consumer lending underwriting. Are you the manager we are looking for?

Here's what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful:

Job Duties:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Indirect Loan Underwriting Department
  • Oversee new development, testing, implementation of new products, pricing and special projects
  • Responsible for the credit quality of CL indirect loan origination that will drive profitability while protecting against risk
  • Meet or exceed the objectives set for accuracy, volume and profitability of all consumer and indirect loans as well as meet or exceed established service level and business unit strategic goals
  • Continuously develop strategies and measurements to meet members credit needs, increase loan growth and profitability opportunities while minimizing risk of loss to the credit union
  • Develop highly skilled staff that effectively protects the assets of the Credit Union while increasing overall profitability through Consumer loan growth
  • Create and maintain strong community relationships
  • Assess varied situations for associated risk and implement proper resolutions based upon current risk tolerances
  • Participate in cross functional relationships within the Credit Union in order to provide optimum internal support

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 3-5 years' of experience with consumer loan underwriting required (e.g., auto loans, credit cards, personal loans, or student loans)
  • Minimum 3-5 years' of experience leading a diverse team through hiring, coaching and performance management required
  • Ability to foster internal and external business relationships
  • Comprehensive understanding of loan contracts including APR, amortization schedules, simple interest calculations
  • Comprehensive understanding of credit reports, pay trends and the ability to make high risk/high dollar loan decisions
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate difficult decisions to dealership/internal staff and diffuse any escalated situations
  • Ability to successfully drive projects, processes and change management concepts in a dynamic and complex operating environment
  • Ability to create and deliver a business plan and strategy that coincides with department and credit union directives
  • Broad knowledge of credit union operations including functions, products and services and regulations

Schedule: Monday - Friday: however, the team works 7 days a week and the manager needs to be flexible to work weekends based on the team needs.
