New Leader Named for Global Women’s Leadership Network

MADISON, Wis. — Eleni (Lena) Giakoumopoulos has been named as the Program Director for the Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) at the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU).

Since 2017, she has been overseeing strategic management of corporate communications with the World Council as the Corporate Communications Manager.

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, WOCCU said Giakoumopoulos will be responsible for directing the professional development programming, expanding GWLN Sister Societies, and growing membership in the U.S. and internationally. GWLN is the industry's only international platform dedicated to addressing and facilitating greater gender balance among leadership positions.

Impactful Program

“The Global Women’s Leadership Network is one of the most impactful programs that we have at the World Council so we are glad that Lena brings her experience and passion to this cause that so many women and men support,” said World Council President and CEO Brian Branch.

Giakoumopoulos has more than 20 years of international experience working in 15 countries in western, central and eastern Europe. Her background includes managing European Union cross-border cooperation programs through consultancy work, membership recruitment for a national trade association, content development for print and digital media and directing career services in an educational organization in Northern Greece.

Prior to joining World Council, WOCCU said she was part of the board communications team at an international finance institution, working with ministries of finance and foreign affairs, supporting economic development and regional cooperation in the Black Sea region.

Giakoumopoulos is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators, holds a master’s degree in global marketing from the University of Liverpool and speaks Greek.
