HANSCOM AFB, Mass.–Volunteers from Hanscom Federal Credit Union and the Cooperative Credit Union Association were at Fisher House Boston shortly before Thanksgiving to prepare a meal for guests at Fisher House Boston, which provides no-charge accommodation for family members caring for hospitalized U.S. veterans. Fisher House Boston is located at the VA Boston Healthcare System, West Roxbury Campus.
“These families are here for their loved ones and are away from the comforts of home,” said Paul Marotta, Hanscom FCU’s chairman of the board. “Preparing a home-cooked meal for these families is an honor for our team, and it’s something we look forward to doing on a regular basis. We hope it gives them a respite during what must be a stressful time.”
Hanscom FCU has a branch on the West Roxbury Campus and has supported Fisher House Boston since the facility opened in 2010. Marotta, along with employees and board members from Hanscom FCU, show up four times a year to prepare dinner for the guest families.
Since 1991, the Fisher House Foundation has donated 78 “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers in the U.S. and overseas. The foundation has served over 30,000 families, saving them more than $407 million in lodging and transportation costs.
