HAMPTON, Va.–Hampton Roads Educators’ Credit Union (HRECU) awarded five scholarships during its 65thAnnual Meeting.
The following four scholarships were awarded to high school seniors:
- Daysi Hale received the $1,000 Naomi J. Chadwick Memorial Scholarship. Hale will graduate from Phoebus High School and plans to attend North Carolina Wesleyan in the fall where she will study nursing.
- Hannah Montero received the $1,000 Laura W. Twyford Memorial Scholarship. The Laura W. Twyford Memorial Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree and career in teaching. Montero will graduate from Jamestown High School and plans to attend James Madison University where she will obtain a Master of Arts in Teaching.
- The $1,000 Career Development Scholarship was awarded to two seniors who plan to pursue a degree in any field other than teaching. This year’s recipients were Kobe Smith, a student at Hampton High School who plans to attend Christopher Newport University with a major in Accounting and Finance and a minor in Leadership. The second recipient was Richard Cordner, who attends Phoebus High School and New Horizons Governor’s School for Science & Technology. Cordner plans to attend Old Dominion University, majoring in Cybersecurity.
- The $1,500 Post Graduate Studies Scholarship was awarded to Hampton High School teacher Kari Espada who is seeking her Doctorate of Education from Concordia University – Portland. The Post Graduate Studies Scholarship is awarded to school employees within the credit union’s field of membership who are pursuing a master’s degree or higher.
