Tower FCU Certified as 'Great Workplace'

LAUREL, Md.–Tower Federal Credit Union said it has been certified as a “great workplace” by the independent analysts at Great Place to Work. Tower said it earned the credential based on extensive ratings provided by its employees in anonymous surveys. The organization credits its mission-driven, people-oriented culture as the reason for its positive survey outcome.

“The culture is evidenced by long-tenured employees such as Vickey Rohde, the credit union’s vice president of deposit operations, who has been with the company for 25 years,” Tower FCU said. Rohde commutes an hour each way daily during the work week, but is fueled by the purpose-driven focus of the organization.

“Our purpose drives us to deliver excellent member service – that’s the reason we exist,” explains Rohde. That purpose extends to employees’ passion for philanthropy.

“Tower is so wonderful because they support our giving back,” says Rohde. “We have a way to pay it forward through the TowerCares Foundation – we all come together to have fundraisers throughout the year. The money goes to different [community] organizations.” In 2018, TowerCares provided $224,000 to 27 area organizations.

Tower’s vice president of its member service center, Sandra Covington, loves coming to the office so much that she has only called out of work three times in the past 20 years. She says anyone seeking employment at the credit union can look forward to “a home, a great career, advancement and inclusion.”

“You don’t have to be in management to make Tower a career for you,” says Covington.

Employees also cite a caring, transparent management team, excellent benefits and flexible schedules among the reasons why Tower is a great place to work.

The organization has a high employee retention rate, with more than 52% of its 554 team members employed with the credit union more than five years.

“We have built a strong culture of appreciation for each other resulting in service excellence to our members,” Tower President & CEO Richard Stafford explains. “I couldn’t be more excited for our employees to receive this recognition.”
