LONE TREE, Colo.–Two Colorado credit unions hosted representatives of a credit union from Ireland as part of what was called a “collaborative exploration of strategy and best practices.”
The three-day exchange, coordinated in part by World Council of Credit Unions’ CEO Brian Branch, included Canvas Credit Union and Elevations Credit Union from Colorado, along with Ireland-based Core Credit Union Ltd.
The goal was to create “even more positive impact for people through communication and partnership,” according to organizers.
The exchange focused on inviting dialogue across a variety of topics, including strategy, lending, technology, growth, regulatory investment/finance, and governance. Leaders from all three credit unions and board members from Canvas Credit Union and Elevations Credit Union participated in the numerous briefings on manifesting positive change and driving growth, organizers reported.
An Amalgamation of CUs
The 35,000-member Core Credit Union is based in Dublin and represents the amalgamation of numerous smaller credit unions that have merged in recent years. Dalkey CU, Sallynoggin/Glenageary CU and Shankill, Ballybrack and District CU merged in 2014 to create Core CU. It has since also merged in Dun Laoghaire District CU, Carrickbrennan CU and Foxrock & District CU.
“I’m really jazzed today. Collaboration is one of the many gifts of our industry. Credit unions talk about collaboration a lot. We need to put our words into action even more often. This week we did just that,” said Todd Marksberry, Canvas Credit Union president and CEO, “I can feel the energy radiating from our Canvas leaders today. We love to learn and we believe that it is our mandate to serve and share. We are grateful to the Core and Elevations teams for helping each of our organizations get better. We aim to transform financial services. We bring that dream to life more quickly together than we will alone.”
Added Gary Agnes, president/CEO of Elevations CU, “This was a unique opportunity to work with credit unions who operate in different environments. Hosting Core Credit Union with Canvas Credit Union gave us the chance to absorb insight into their operations, while sharing our knowledge on growth and other important topics relevant to the credit union. We are excited to continue the multi-year mutual exchange of information and will include selected senior leaders and board members from all three organizations.”
