NORFOLK, Va. – The marketing manager from Northern Star Credit Union (NSCU) was a volunteer at the Inaugural STEM Camp hosted by the LEAD Hampton Roads Class of 2019. This leadership class is organized by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.
As part of the eight-month program, the class coordinated the free enrichment camp to address the demand for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in K-12 education.
The camp was held at Norfolk State University, where 98 kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs across Southeastern Virginia learned about cybersecurity, geometrocity, nanotechnology, drones, and ozobots through interactive workshops.
“The volume of volunteers and impact on the kids’ faces was proof enough that this event was worth duplicating; plans have already begun for the 2020.
