PORTLAND, Ore.–Providence Federal Credit Union reported it has exceeded its annual contribution commitment to Providence St. Joseph Health’s Helping Hands Fund delivering an additional $15,000.
In total, Providence FCU matched dollar-for-dollar individual donations up to $50,000 and, with the additional contribution, provided $65,000 toward the Helping Hands total of more than $150,000 raised.
The emergency fund is intended to provide confidential, one-time financial assistance and other resources to eligible caregivers who are facing an urgent financial hardship.
“Financial emergencies spring up when we least expect them, and Providence FCU is committed to supporting this necessary safety net,” said Providence FCU President and CEO Shirley Cate. “Our health care members dedicate their lives to caring for those in medical need and it’s our mission to show that same dedication to the Providence St. Joseph Health community when they are in financial need.”
Since 2016, Providence FCU has pledged to match individual donations up to $50,000. This year, Providence FCU implemented creative ways to raise awareness and donations for the Helping Hands Fund. One method was allowing members to set-up recurring contributions through their pay checks. Members could donate $1 or more per paycheck through the automatic payroll deductions. Additionally, the credit union said it donated $10 on behalf of each new member who joined the credit union in the fall.
The Providence Helping Hands Fund offers a financial lifeline to Providence St. Joseph Health caregivers struggling to pay for rent, utilities, unexpected medical bills, groceries for their families, or to escape domestic abuse. In 2017, the Helping Hands Fund raised more than $150,000, which helped more than 200 caregivers, many of whom had experienced unexpected illness and housing emergencies.
“The Helping Hand Fund has become one of the most favored programs Providence St. Joseph Health caregivers support during the annual giving campaign, said Tam Everard, Development Coordinator for Providence Portland Medical Foundation. “It’s tremendous what Providence Federal Credit Union’s Challenge Match has done to generate awareness and funding for this program. We are most grateful for this partnership.”
