After joining SAFE as a management trainee in 2012, Huckeba served in a variety of leadership roles including branch manager, Regional Branch Director, Assistant Vice President of Branch Operations, and most recently, Assistant Vice President of Mortgage Services before assuming his new role as Vice President of Lending.

“Drew Huckeba has shown a great level of dedication and leadership in every position he has held at SAFE,” said SAFE President and CEO, Darrell Merkel. “His background in operations, mortgage loans, and special projects makes him uniquely qualified to lead our lending functions.”

“SAFE does an outstanding job serving the lending needs of its membership,” said Huckeba. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of our loan offerings.”

The CU also named Steve Heinemann Assistant Vice President of Mortgage Services. Prior to joining SAFE, Heinemann spent most of his lending career in the Michigan area, where he worked for some of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders. He most recently served as the Mortgage Branch Manager of NVR Mortgage in Raleigh, North Carolina. Heinemann brings more than 25 years of management experience to SAFE through his extensive background in mortgage and home equity lending.

“Mortgages are among the greatest ways SAFE serves its members and we are fortunate to have someone of Steve Heinemann’s caliber leading our mortgage lending efforts,” said  Merkel. “With Steve’s leadership, we look forward to delivering our members the best possible experience when they’re ready to buy or refinance their home.”

“I’ve always enjoyed working in the credit union environment where the focus is on putting the member first, not profit,” said Heinemann. “I look forward to helping SAFE members achieve their dream of home ownership.”
