EL PASO, Texas–Nearly $4.5 million has been raised to help victims of the mass shooting in here, with credit unions involved in both the fundraising and hosting of one of the funds.
In the six days since 22 people were killed here, 12,700 individuals and companies have made donations.
As CUToday.info first reported, FirstLight FCU here offered to match the first $25,000 donated to its El Paso Community Foundation.
Tenet Healthcare, which owns The Hospitals of Providence, donated $100,000 to the El Paso Community Foundation and will match employee donations up to $50,000.
Disaster relief funds are being used to provide crisis counseling, emergency food and shelter, disaster response and other needs as they arise, according to organizers.
